Precious Metals Storage
CanAm Bullion offers storage enquiries for new bullion purchases and existing holdings. If you would prefer to store precious metals away from home, contact our team to discuss your holdings and request the terms for a suitable arrangement before committing.
Storage involves more than choosing a vault. The agreement should explain what you own, where it is held, what you pay and how you can retrieve or sell it. Use the questions below to compare the proposed service with a bank box or your own storage.
What can you put into storage?
You can enquire about storing bullion bought from CanAm or metals you already hold. Tell us the metal, product, quantity and whether you are planning a new purchase or a transfer. Ask which items are eligible and what documentation, checks and transfer instructions apply before sending any holdings.
If you are buying for storage, you can start with our gold-bar catalogue. Confirm the storage arrangement separately from the product purchase, including any charges for moving the metal into the facility.
Location and access
Ask our team which storage locations are currently available for your holdings and where your metal would be held. Confirm the facility in your agreement before arranging a transfer. A vault location should not be treated as a retail counter or an invitation to arrive without an appointment.
When comparing access, ask whether you can visit the facility, whether collection is available, and what identification, notice and authorisation are required. Confirm how a change of location would be handled.
Understand the custody arrangement
Ask for the agreement’s definitions of allocated and segregated storage. In general, allocated storage identifies particular metal for a client; segregated storage keeps a client’s holdings separate from other clients’ holdings. The agreement needs to specify how those descriptions apply to your items.
Check how ownership is recorded, whether individual bars or coins are identified, whether substitutions are permitted and which parties are responsible for custody. Obtain the terms explaining your rights if a provider cannot fulfil its obligations. Physical storage still involves custodians and contractual responsibilities.
Fees, records and insurance
Request the current fee schedule and a written quote for your holdings. Confirm any minimum holding or minimum charge, billing currency, payment frequency, applicable taxes, transfer charges and withdrawal or delivery costs. Compare the total cost over the period you expect to store the metal.
Ask for a sample holdings statement, the reporting schedule and the procedure for querying a discrepancy. Also ask whether independent audits take place, what they cover and what evidence is available to clients. An account statement and an independent audit serve different purposes.
Request the insurance summary that applies to the proposed arrangement. Confirm the insurer, who can claim, how metal is valued, any limits or deductibles, and relevant exclusions. Ask separately about cover during transfers and delivery; storage cover should not be assumed to include transport.
Withdrawing or selling your metal
Before depositing, obtain the process for requesting a withdrawal, expected handling time, collection or delivery options and associated charges. Confirm who authorises release and when responsibility for the metal changes. Do not assume immediate access or a fixed delivery date.
If you expect to sell later, ask how a sale from storage would work and whether it requires a withdrawal first. Our selling information provides a starting point for a quote enquiry; confirm acceptance, valuation and charges for your particular holdings.
