One Of The Most Popular Bullion Coins in History

South African Krugerrands have been produced since 1967. It is the world’s most common and popular 1 oz bullion gold coin, and it is an excellent way to invest in gold at a low cost.

About the Krugerrand Gold Coin

South Africa issued the first gold bullion coin in 1967 – the Krugerrand. The Krugerrand aided South Africa in selling massive amounts of gold extracted from deep mines near Johannesburg. Because it was simple to use and contained exactly one ounce of pure gold, the gold Krugerrand was the most popular way for people to buy gold bullion in the 1970s.

By 1980, more than 90% of all gold coins sold around the world were Krugerrands. They were the most popular choice for investors buying gold. During the 1980s and 1990s, however, Krugerrands became less popular because some western countries wouldn’t accept imports from South Africa as they were linked to the apartheid government. Most of these sanctions were removed in 1991 after the South African government took steps to end its apartheid policies.

In the early 20th Century, gold coins were not accepted as legal tender, but that changed when the Krugerrand was introduced – a legal tender coin created solely for the purpose of trading for its gold value and the low cost of producing and distributing it.

Even though Krugerrands are legal tender, they don’t have a face value. Instead, they are traded based on the price of gold at the time.

The South African Mint has made more than 48 million Krugerrands. The Krugerrand is made mostly of 22-carat gold (91.67%), with copper making up the other 8.33%. Each Krugerrand is 33.93 grams and has 1 ounce of real gold inside.

After 50 years of only making gold bullion coins, the South African Mint added silver coins to the series in 2017.

Features of the 1 oz Krugerrand Gold Coin

In 1967, a picture of Paul Kruger, who was President of the South African Republic for four terms, was put on the front of this coin.

On the back is a picture of a springbok, a type of antelope that lives in South Africa and is the country’s national symbol. The image was made by Coert Steynberg and was used on the back of the South African five shillings coin from 1947 to 1951 and from 1953 to 1959, as well as the 50 cents coin from 1961 to 1964. Both Afrikaans and English are used to write “South Africa” and the amount of gold is also written on the coin.

The South Africa Mint sells the coin in tubes with 10 or 15. Each coin is 32.7 mm in diameter and 2.83 mm thick. It is also available in 12 oz., 14 oz., and 1/10 oz. weights.

Where is my order sent from?

Depending on your purchase, your order will be sent directly from our warehouse or directly from the mint.

How do I know when my order has been sent?

You’ll receive an email with details, including a tracking link, when we send your order. You can also log into your account to view the order status.

How long will it take for my products to arrive?

Once we receive payment, you’ll be sent an email receipt stating it has been paid for, and your products will be sent out within 1-2 business days. Most payments will have a holding period depending on the payment form. For example, if you pay via check, the holding period for payment clearance can take up to 5 business days. Once your product is shipped, you can expect delivery within 1-3 business days, on average, across the US or Canada. This varies depending on the carrier, time of the year (Christmas post is often slower, for example) and other factors.

Do I need to sign for my package?

If your order is valued at under $1,000, you won’t need to sign for it unless you have chosen this option at checkout. More valuable items will need a signature. If you are not home to accept the delivery, you will receive a notification from the shipping company to make other arrangements.

Does insurance cover my purchase during shipment?

Yes! All packages sent by CanAm Bullion are fully insured so if anything happens enroute to your address, it will be covered provided the Terms and Conditions are met. We will investigate and file a claim if the package is lost or stolen.

What do I do if my package has been tampered with?

Shipping insurance ends the moment you sign for your package, so we recommend you refuse any delivery that looks to have been tampered with. If you refuse the package, it will be sent back to CanAm, and we will follow up. Call our customer service team within 48 hours if your product is damaged.

What happens if my order goes missing during shipment?

All packages that CanAm Bullion sends out are insured, provided they meet certain conditions. If your order gets lost in transit (3 days UPS, 7 days USPS), you need to contact us, and we will start a claim process with the shipping company. The claims process can take 30 days or more. If your package arrives after we start the claims process, you must let us know right away.

What happens if my order is broken during shipment?

CanAm sends all our bullion products in high quality packaging, so breakages are highly unlikely. However, should this occur, contact our team within 48 hours of delivery, and we will start the claims process with the shipping company.

What happens if my order never arrived, but the courier says it was delivered?

Packages that have been dispatched to the correct address and have been delivered will not be eligible for a refund or insurance claim from CanAm Bullion. You assume full risk and liability for the shipment once it has been delivered (either by signing for it or by us leaving it at the specified delivery address). CanAm Bullion MUST be notified of any shipment issues within two calendar days of recorded delivery.

Do you offer shipment worldwide?

We currently offer shipment across Canada and the US. Stay tuned for further destinations coming soon.

Do you ship to US territories?

No. We don’t send packages to US territories.

Do you ship to PO Boxes and UPS Stores?

Yes. We can send items to a P.O. Box. However, keep in mind the insurance coverage ends as soon as the package is marked as delivered. We can also ship to UPS Stores, different mail and packing stores, freight forwarders, and more, however, shipping insurance does not cover items sent here.

How do I choose the best shipping method?

You will be given a few options for shipping, including standard delivery and express delivery (for a small fee). You’ll see these options on checkout, so please choose the option that best suits you.
